Realizing how deadly Covid-19 was to people who were already unhealthy was the main impetus for me becoming a health coach.
We know Covid disproportionally killed the elderly. But regardless of age your health was a key indicator of how you would fare with Covid. We heard that a large percentage of the people who were dying from Covid had comorbidities.
But what are comorbidities?
A comorbidity is simply another (other than Covid) disease that the patient is suffering from.
According to the NIH the most common comorbidities associated with death from Covid were High Blood Pressure (42%), Cardiovascular Disease (31%), Diabetes (28%), Kidney Disease (23%) Cancer (15%), Obesity (15%), Liver Disease (8%), Respiratory diseases (6%), Immune-related diseases (4%) and Stroke (4%).
The reason these numbers add up to more than 100% is that about half of the deaths occurred in patients with more than one comorbidity.
I think we all know we Should get healthier but I hope that Covid has emphasized that we MUST get healthier.
As Tony Robbins said, some people just should all over themselves.
